Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

A weekend in Cork, Ireland

27 March 2006 ~ 15:51

Top o' the mornin' to ya! Nightdragon, my mum & I just had a weekend in Cork, Ireland. We arrived Friday. We stayed in a hotel called The Ambassador, that I really recommend. It has lovely rooms with views across the city (it's on top of a hill) and a fitness centre with Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room & gym. The breakfast was great. Friday was not nearly as cold as we thought it would be and did not rain much as we had been led to believe. We strolled around town, had a drink in a pub (lovely that there's no smoke in their pubs now it's been banned!) and then ate at a Thai restaurant and went back to the hotel.

Saturday we went into an Internet caf then to shopped for some souvenirs, had lunch in the same pub as the day before and visited St Finnbare's Cathedral where Mum & I lit candles for my late brother Steven and our late ratties. It was too short a trip to get to 'Kiss the Blarney Stone' athough the castle is only five minutes from Cork city.

The Irish are so friendly. The cab driver who took us from the airport insisted on being the one to come and take us back too! And this trip cost us only 52 each (20 each for the flight on Ryanair, 32 each for the hotel room through hotelconnect). Cheap weekend!

It was so foggy that the flight before ours (to London Stanstead) was cancelled and we feared our London Gatwick flight would be too, but fortunately the fog lifted. Cue three very relieved people!
