Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

House invaders!

14 September 2004 ~ 14:53

My mum has got a lodger in her house, but he hasn't paid her a penny in rent. Then again, he doesn't have anyall he has are nuts. He's a squirrel.

She noticed funny noises in the loft, especially at nightscratching and pitter-pattering of feet. But the funny thing is, she never suspected a squirrel because you hardly ever see them around in her neighbourhood.

Then recently she noticed a hole had been gnawed in the facing (woodwork just below the guttering), and it got bigger and perfectly round.

Then, the other day, she heard it in the morning and rushed out and there, bold as brass, was a squirrel sitting in the guttering staring back at her as if to say 'What you looking at?'

So now Mum has to pay 800 ($1,439) for new facing (vinyl this time, not wood), otherwise the roof-dwelling rodent could chew her electrical wires and cause a fire.

I had to laugh when she said that the builder who came to look at the house told her of an old man living nearby who had six squirrels in his loft, but didn't hear them because he was deaf! He was even feeding them nuts! They caused 4,000 ($7,198) worth of damage. Naughty squirrelies!
