Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

Mona Lisa and a new computer

20 June 2006 ~ 10:43

Mark, Mum & I went to Paris on Saturday on the Eurostar train, which takes about 2 hours 45 minutes from London. We had a good time. It was 79 degrees and lovely and sunny. On the Saturday we walked around near Cit and saw Notre Dame and a huge place called the Palais de Justice. It had guards around it and loads of French flags so must have been the main law court or something. We also got quite a few great souvenirs, sat in a caf and people-watched. We had dinner at an American restaurant called The Indiana Club near the Gare de l'Est which is where our hotel (the Hotel Villa Saint Martin) was, near the Canal Saint Martin. The Indiana Club do really great cocktails!

On Sunday we went to The Louvre. We saw The Mona Lisa. And we weren't jumping on the Da Vinci Code band wagon - Mum and I said that we'd have to go back and see The Mona Lisa because we didn't get chance to see her last time we were there.

We saw a funny hotel called The Hotel Kuntz when we were walking back from our hotel to the Gare du Nord to catch the train home. I know a few people who could do with checking in at a hotel named that!

Our Eurostar tickets only cost 59 each!
That's about $100.

We also have a new laptop computer now. Autumn snuck into the bedroom last Thursday night and I couldn't get her until about 3am. In the morning Mark plugged in the computer and it went Bang! She had chewed all the cables including right through some of them. Thank God Mark had unplugged it the night before (it usually stays plugged in) because it had been playing up and he was trying to 'rest' it in an effort to get it going again. Otherwise Autumn could have ended up as Kentucky Fried Rat!

Anyway it gave us a good excuse to get a new computer and I bought a laptop. It was on sale at 399 but because I took out accident insurance at 7.99 per month, the price was reduced to 349. I managed to get it up and running and connected to the Web the same evening. Mark is pleased with it so far. We just have to try and get the scanner set up on it (we still have the CD) and get the files from the old computer installed. We know a computer tech who we hope will be able to do it for us cheaply.
