Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

Why Europe can keep the uro

13 June 2003 ~ 11:54

Im not in favour of the U.K. adopting the uro as our currency. I cant wait to have a referendum on the matter so we can all vote to keep our sterling and end the debate once and for all.

Yes, it would be useful not having to change up money every time we travel abroad, but it really doesnt take a minute and many places sell foreign currency commission-free these days.

The disadvantages of the single currency are likely to be much greater. For example its pretty much certain that shops and service providers will use the changeover to sneak up prices. Apparently, when Spain adopted the euro, in Barcelona prices went up by as much as a whopping 80 per cent! And if you compare the unemployment figures in the U.K. to those in France and Germany, you can see that theirs are nearly double that of Britains. Do we really want that for Britain?

No, lets keep the good ole British pound and tell the politiciansTony Blair includedto shove the uro up their a$$es!
