Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

Rat chat

22 May 2003 ~ 16:22

Heres conclusive proof that rats talk to each other in a more complex way than you might imagine.

On Sunday, Mark and I went to visit our friends Bambi and Steve, and they gave us a clockwork hamster toy that runs along the floor. Their cats didnt seem particularly interested in it so we thought wed give Sky and the gang a try with it.

When we got home, we let the girls out and put the hamster on the floor. Sky saw it and immediately ran away. She was obviously very scared of it, and she and Luna actually hid behind the sofa all evening because of it (Stella stayed in the cage).

The interesting thing to note is that Luna never saw the toy, only Sky did. So Sky must have communicated to Luna that there was a scary thing about and she needed to hide! Isnt that sweet?

If only we could understand them, because there must be rat words that convey danger and hide!
