Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

SAVE THE SEALS!

17 September 2003 ~ 12:09

I recently received a newsletter from Respect for Animals about an advertisement campaign they are hoping to run to protest against the seal cull in Canada. For a minimum donation of 30, supporters can have their name on a full-page national newspaper advert. Naturally I immediately signed up. Ive also been selling raffle tickets for the seals.

Over the next year the Canadians plan to kill 350,000 seals mainly by clubbing them in view of their mothers. Many will still be fully conscious when skinned. It is barbaric and far from being carried out by unlicensed poachersit is actually supported by the Canadian government.

Something desperately needs to be done about this barbaric practise. The seals are blamed for the fish they eat, but the truth is that for years the seas have been over-fished by man. This is a fine display of typical human behaviourblame the animals and make them the scapegoats.

One of the problems campaigners face is that it is a common perception that seal culling in Canada ended decades ago. In fact the only legislation passed at that time was to prevent the white-coated fluffy baby seals being culled. So the hunters now merely wait a few days longer until the white baby coat has moulted. Make no mistake thoughthese are still baby animals we are talking about.

Please help in any way you can to fight the seal cull by writing to the Canadian Prime Minister or tourist board. Hit them where it hurtsdont visit Canada until they ban the seal cull. You can get more information here and also here. Please visit those sites and educate yourself on the unacceptable slaughter that is occurring.
