Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

Latest vacation in Nice

14 December 2005 ~ 23:10

We got back from another trip to Nice on Monday night. We had a good time.

The hotel we stayed in, the Nice Riviera, was great and it may become our new winter hotel, as we may just keep the Splendid for summer. The heated indoor pool was 93 deg. F swimming in it was like taking a bath. Ive never known such a warm pool. The Jacuzzi was great too, and we had both the pool and the Jacuzzi all to ourselves practically the whole time. The room was comfortable and cosy and the breakfast was very nice.

Nice had made a great effort for Christmas. All the shops had lovely trees well-decorated, including one bright red tree. There were lots of huge real trees decorated with silver bows all around town, including Place Massena and the Promenade des Anglais. Place Massena was the central Christmas fun place to be, with a small outdoor ice-skating rink, a large outdoor theatre decorated with a sea of Christmas trees covered in red bows, a gigantic Ferris wheel, childrens tampolines, slide, mini bungee jumping and a wonderful little Christmas Fayre selling cute gifts and delicious food, including mulled wine.

Mark and I persuaded Mum to come on the Big Wheel but she was nervous. Although she managed OK, she wouldnt go again when we did it the next day. Mark went ice-skating and hurt his leg, not because he fell but because he strained it from skating too long!

The shops had the most amazing stuff and we had a great time shopping. I got a great nightie with foxes and rabbits on, a cute mouse kitchen timer and Mum got two pairs of boots for 22 each and a nice cheap handbag for me as my Xmas pressie from the girls.

One thing we had planned to do was to go to Monaco and see the Cathedral. Mum wanted particularly to see where Princess Grace was buried. However after traipsing all the way up to the station, we discovered the next train to Monaco was not for three hours as the train drivers were on strike!
