Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

Fun weekend, new friends

03 June 2003 ~ 10:05

Last weekend Mark and I met up with another US/UK couple who just happen to live two streets up from us. We had arranged to go for drinks and a meal and we met them at The Puzzle, a local pub which, strangely, we'd never been to before. We will definitely be going again because it has a lovely, private beer garden, the best I've come accross in the area (i.e. it's grassy, not just a concrete yard).

Bridget is from Memphis and her husband Patrick is from Yorkshire. They've been married about a year and Bridget actually likes it over here (some Americans have a lot of trouble adjusting to living in the UK). They have no plans to move Stateside.

After drinks we moved on to one of our favourite restaurants, a nice family run Italian place, Lorenzo's. We had a pleasant meal and nice conversation. It was a great evening.

We then went back for coffee to our new friend's flat and met their adorable tortoiseshell cat, Gracelands (named after Elvis' home) or Gracie for short. We were very interested to see the inside of their flat because they live in a converted church and we'd often walked past and wondered what it was like inside, with its columns and stained glass windows. It was a lovely flat. We ended up staying til 1 p.m.!

On Sunday Mark stayed home whilst I met up with my other American friend, Bambi, and went with her to Battersea Park Zoo. It rained all day, which was a pain but we still enjoyed ourselves. There were monkey mothers with little tiny babies clinging to them. So sweet, and we managed to hold hands with one of the monkeys who put his hand through the bars, probably seeking food!

This coming weekend we are off to Amsterdam again. No rest for the wicked!
