Perching here and gathering my thoughts ...

A brief visit to Oxford

26 May 2005 ~ 12:33

A few weekends ago, Nightdragon and I decided to 'do something' for a change instead of schlepping around the flat. So we hopped on a train to central London, took the tube to Paddington Station, and caught a train to Oxford.

Oxford is the oldest university in England, in fact in Britain, older than its chief rival Cambridge (the two universities hold an annual boat race on the Thames every summer). Many of its colleges date from the 13th Century.

As we walked around taking in all the tall spires made famous in TV's 'Inspector Morse,' it seemed amazing to think that the future King Henry V attended university here when he was Prince of Wales.

We took some photos, shopped for souvenirs and had lunch at an old hotel. I bought my mother-in-law some 'Gargoyles of Oxford' playing cards. She loves gargoyles.

Here are a few interesting facts about Oxford University you may enjoy.
