Gerbils out rats in

05 April 2006 ~ 09:52

Last night we said goodbye to the gerbils. Dan came to pick them up and although we will miss their little faces, we were glad to have the spare cage back because we have been looking after the four rat girls since Saturday. The poor things had been kept in their carrying cage because there was nowhere else to put them. They have a hammock in there but it is definitely not enough space for four rats, small as they are compared to Autumn.

The actually chewed two large holes in the carrying cage, one on either side, and we had to mend the holes with plastic tupperware lids and insulation tape. The second hole they chewed was at 3am on Tuesday morning and I awake hearing ratty noises. I found Vega, the thinest rat, out and about in the living room and Capella trying to squeeze herself out through the gap they had chewed. Vega was looking at Autumn in her cage. Fortunately it was easy to catch her. Actually I think she just let me catch her.

Vega and Capella are both very wheezy girls, especially Capella. Spryte and Mosie seem fine. I hope maybe Beri's vet and can find an antibiotic that will work to help Vega and Capella.
